Album US 2011 on Blue Earth Records, Nashville label
Children's Music
Tab Laven has assembled an amazing collection of self-penned songs and friends on his new release Cranberry Red Balloon. To label this just a children’s CD would be a huge injustice. Not only has Tab enlisted Nashville a-list players, most notably one-time Dire Straits member Paul Franklin on pedal steel guitar, he has also called upon friends to lend an impressive helping hand on background vocal chores. To name a few: Art Garfunkel, Beach Boys members Bruce Johnston, Randell Kirsch, Mike Love’s son Christian Love, and John Cowsill (originally of 60s pop group The Cowsills), and Vicki Peterson, founding member of The Bangles. From the galloping acoustic guitar-driven opening title track and the clever and endearing “Godsdog” to the hauntingly beautiful “Close Your Eyes,” each song has its own unique universe and touches on all nostalgic nerves. It is sure to appeal not only to kids of all ages, but to the forgotten child in each of us.
