Tadeusz Chmielewski (b. 1941) is a Polish pianist and music pedagogue, a professor at the Academy of Music in Łódź, and honorary vice-chair of the European Piano Teachers Association. He was born in Vilnius and began his musical studies with Maria Wiłkomirska in Lodz. Chmielewski received a grant from the Ministry of Culture and the Arts and studied with Jakov Zak at the Moscow Conservatory. As a soloist and chamber musician, Tadeusz Chmielewski had been performing extensively in Poland and internationally, across all five continents. He participated in numerous festivals, including the International Chopin Festival in Duszniki Zdrój and Polish Piano Festival in Słupsk. For many years, Tadeusz gave concerts and recorded with Wanda Wilkomirska. Chmielewski also appeared on stage with Vadim Brodski, Barbara Górzyńska, Elisa Kawaguti, Kaja Danczowska and other notable artists. He won first prizes in many piano competitions and festivals. In 1977, 1981 and 1986, Tadeusz received the jury's award for the best piano performance at the International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition in Poznań. He has been a juror of the International Karol Szymanowski Piano Competition in Lodz since 1983. Chmielewski regularly gives master classes in Poland and abroad, such as an annual summer gathering in Białystok. For twenty-five years, he directed the Piano School at the Academy of Music in Łódź. Tadeusz held a chair of the Frédéric Chopin Society in Warsaw from 1991 to 2001 and was appointed to the Programme Committee of Narodowy Instytut Fryderyka Chopina in 2005.
