Artist Portrait

Tamriko Kordzaia

p, CH
Musician of Classical

Tamriko Kordzaia (piano) became renowned in her native Georgia as an interpreter of Mozart and Haydn. After moving to Switzerland, she continued in this field, but became more and more engaged in new music, especially in the works of the younger generations of composers. Her solo programs prove with seemingly incompatible pieces that both fields rather complement than repel each other: she combines pieces from the Viennese classical era with world premieres, Messiaen with post-minimalist trash compositions or with works by musicians from the Rock and Techno scenes. In 2005, she recorded the complete piano works of Christoph Delz. She studied in Tbilisi with Nana Tschikwaidse, Nodar Gabunia and Nana Khubutia, in Switzerland with Homero Francesch and Hans-Jürg Strub. She has received numerous national and international awards, including the first prize and the prize for Mozart interpretation at the International Sakai Competition in Osaka and the culture award of the City of Winterthur. She commits herself as a mediator of contemporary music in Georgia, particularly as director of the Festival "close encounters". She has been a member of the Mondrian Ensemble since 2008 and lives in Zurich.
