Band,
Alternative
A punk band from Kansas City, Missouri with a sound that owed as much to midwestern punk luminaries Naked Raygun as it did to the Buzzcocks. The early material drew heavily from the street punk and oi! scene while the later material developed a more power/pop and straight up rock and roll sound. Tanka Ray formed in a basement in 1996, and after multiple regional tours and releases, disbanded around 2004. Tanka Ray often played with local contemporaries Kosher, Sister Mary Rotten Crotch, and Main Street Saints, as well as touring acts such as The Roustabouts, The GC5, and Sixer. The final lineup included Jimmy Fitzner (bass, vocals), Charles Snyder (drums), and Pat Nelson (guitar). Previous members include Derek Williams (bass) and Eric Schlueter (bass) and Robert Paulson (guitar).
