Producer
A.k.a. Tom Kuo TK (6)
As an electronic musician and a producer based out of Toronto, Tom Kuo, aka task, uses a grounding in techno to pursue a varied range of precise electronic strains. While ensuring the attention of the dancefloor with compelling rhythms, he places special focus on pushing the boundaries of abstract experimentation with futuristic, soulful and moody sounds. Deeply influenced by the direction of NYC underground artists since 95, Tom is continuously and consistently developing and evolving his methods of accentuating, and sometimes exaggerating, the moment shared between himself, his technological tools, and his listeners. In performance, Tom is always seeking the revolutionary moment when intelligent music meets the flow of body and mind. His unique blend of abstract territories and bold attitude, have lead him to headline and guest along side world class acts in the US, Canada, and Asia. Further to his personal creative experimentation, he has been an active member of the talented, Toronto-based wabi collective since 1999. Living the aural.visual.spatial model, this collective of designers and musicians host events that merge installations, which play with contracting and expanding space and moving between stasis and flow, with innovative electronic music. In keeping with his dual mission to concretize the gray area between defined forms and to redefine technology as musical instrument, Tom joined LiminaL projects in March 2001. His live PA work with this group has propelled him into composing sound through the digital interface of a computer. Together, these four gifted musician/collaborators combine pitched-down, abstract, tribal sound with organic visual installations. Tom launched Foundation Music in June 2003 with intent to handle music business of all sorts. It consists of a group of talented individuals who specialize in various forms of audio production and services. You are navigating within the company's website right now. Over the past few years, task has also played an integral role in Toronto's simplicity art collective, the legendary Area 51 nightclub, and various other projects that would consider stimulating for his own creative growth in digital media arts.
