A.k.a. Eddy Lawrence
Teddy Peters is a a fluent, native-born Mohawk language speaker from the Snye area of the Akwesasne reserve. He is a Mohawk Immersion School teacher in the Akwesasne school system and a former radio show host on CKON radio. Eddy Lawrence, who is of Cherokee descent, is a songwriter, musician, recording engineer, and record producer. He was born and raised in Alabama and spent a decade in New York City but has been living in Northern New York State near Akwesasne for many years. In the mid-2000's, Teddy & Eddy teamed up to record fully produced recordings of well known country music songs, translated by Teddy into the Mohawk language. They produced scores of recordings for airplay on Teddy's popular Saturday afternoon CKON radio show. Eventually, 25 of the songs they recorded wound up being released on two albums. The first CD, Niawenhko:wa, was released only in various Mohawk communities, but the second album, Rarennenha:wi ("He Carries A Song"), was more widely distributed and was nominated for a NAMMY (Native American Music Award) for Best Linguistic Recording.
