The Supremes

voc,
Singer of Rock and R&B/Soul

US vocal group formed in 1955. Members: Waldo "Champ" Champen, Larry "Lonnie" Gales (lead of the Starlings/Twilighters), Ed "Sonny" Jordan (tenor) and Billy Baines (bass). Later in mid-1956: Bobby Mansfield, Frenchie Concepcion. Ruth McFadden sings lead on "Darling, Listen To The Words Of This Song". In 1984, the Murray Hill Company released a boxed set of The Solitaires recordings which included several previously unreleased songs. Due to a mixup at Old Town Records, it also included a song not performed by the Solitaires: "Darling, Listen To The Words Of This Song" was actually performed by another Old Town group called "The Supremes". Same with the song "Come Back And Give Me Your Hand" which was initially credited as an unreleased Solitaires song. Another tune that has surfaced recently is "Zip Boom." This has appeared on two Old Town compilations as being an unreleased Supremes song. However, after listening to it, Champ says it's NOT by them.
