The Beat Boys

of R&B/Soul

The house backing band for the TV show "The Beat" which aired in 1966. Produced & hosted by legendary DJ William "Hoss" Allen. The band backed up musical guests on the TV show & also provided instrumental breaks which were spun off into singles. Based in Dallas TX on WFAA because no station in Nashville could broadcast full colour at the time. Throughout the run of the show The Beat Boys variously featured Clarence "Gatemouth" Brown, Johnny Jones, David "Fathead" Newman & Billy Cox among others.
