Album US 1983 on Savage Records label
Rock and Pop (Rock’n’Roll, Beat)
Contrary to popular folklore, the "Hamburg Tapes" were not recorded by Ted "King Size" Taylor, although some did end up in his possession. The Beatle recordings were in fact made by Adrian Barber, a guitarist from Liverpool who at the time was stage manager at the Star Club. Barber recorded five complete Beatle sets between December 21 and December 31, 1962, utilizing a Grundig domestic tape recorder with one microphone. Later, Barber gave Ted Taylor three of the five Beatle recordings. These three tapes remained in Taylor's office until Alan Williams discovered them a decade later. The best portions of these recordings were then electronically altered and rearranged to form the "Hamburg" albums released in the late '70s. The album you are now holding was not made from these tapes, but from one of the remaining unissued recordings left in Barber's collection. This is the only complete, unedited performance by the Beatles in Hamburg. No attempt has been made to alter or rearrange this performance. All stage comments have been left intact and uncensored to preserve historical accuracy. Now for the first time you can hear a complete unabridged Beatles concert from 1962. WARNING: The microphone used by Adrian Barber for these recordings was plastic, costing only a few deutchmarks. The sound quality is what you might expect from such. FOR COLLECTORS ONLY!
