The Black Brothers

Country
A.k.a. The Country Cut-Ups The Country Cutups The Five Whispers The Tides (2) The Triplets (6)

Larry Dean Bobby Black Inspired by the country swing genre of the 1940s, the two men would eventually come to be known in the late 1960s as The Black Brothers, and each would enjoy a long and prolific career whether they were playing together as a group (they played as the house band in their hometown of San Mateo, California) or in other groups, as session players, and in several other aspects of the music industry. In the late 1950s they started a recording studio to accommodate their burgeoning career, recording a number of tracks which were released in the coming years. These tracks were mostly instrumental in nature and were fashioned as releases in then-popular genres (including Doo Wop and Surf instrumental) on labels such as Dolton/Liberty and Dore, the latter label releasing their biggest hit of the time as The Triplets. But their output of that time was so prolific that their tracks were released under no less than six different guises, and on just as many labels. They performed as The Tides for a short time, but Country and Country Swing was where they were most at home and eventually they found their way as The Black Brothers. Bobby later joined Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen, and had a prolific career as a steel guitar player with Asleep At The Wheel, The New Riders of the Purple Sage.
