The Broadway Clique was a rock band that formed in Warrensburg, Missouri in the mid-1960s. They were formed by Dave McQuitty who had fronted local group The Viscounts (9). He envisioned a version of The Viscounts with an expanded horn section. The group changed the name to The Broadway Clique and the band grew from 6 or 7 member to 8, including 2-3 horns. The band at that time was Dave McQuitty (leader and lead vocals), Dick Brown (drums), Jack Shelton (Hammond C-3 organ), John Guin (guitar), Gary Bush (trumpet), Dan Rau (sax), and Jim White (bass). Around 1968, the group expanded the horn section, adding Terry Williams on lead trumpet and Bryan Savage on saxophone and flute (who went on to have a very long successful music career). Jim White passed away in a car crash and was replaced on bass by The Viscounts guitar player Gary Walton. When drummer Dick Brown left for the Air Force, the drummer that took his place was also named Dick Brown. The group existed with varying lineups through the 1970s and into the 1980s at which point the name was shortened to The Clique (14), a group with more of a new wave sound and featuring totally different members, but with Dave McQuitty still managing them.
