From: Pittsburg, PA. The Gents +1 recorded “The Storm is Over” (Roberta Marbella), the flip side was a cover tune called “Jerk-N-The Dog”. Only 5 copies were cut onto metal/vinyl records. “The Storm is Over” got some airtime on the “T. L. (Terry Lee) Music for Young Lovers” show and The “Charlie Apple” show. The group concentrated on the Motown Sound covering the most popular groups of the day. They added to their stage show with some smart choreography and kept the vocal harmonies tight. Bill Moran’s (Lead Guitar) was added to the group in 1965. His induction into the Army moved Larry Stanley into the Lead Guitar position. Jeff Boyles (Trumpet) was added to the group. This brought a new dimension to the stage. The most popular of songs was Cliff Nobels “The Horse”. Once again the Army claimed a member of the group and Jeff was inducted. Gerry Lee Condarado (Keyboard/Rhythm Guitar) replaced Jeff as the 5th person on stage. Gerry Lee brought a fresh new vocal sound to the group. It also presented a problem, they were no longer +1. A name change was in order. The group was about to go into the studio and record, but the name no longer fit. Sitting in a booth at a north-side gig (The Apache Lounge) the decision was made to call them selves the Confusions. The 45 “Sad Souvenirs” and “Fried IceCream” (Larry Stanley), was recorded and distributed to the local stations. T.L., Porky Chedwick and Charlie Apple all helped to promote the single. With the group on TV and the Radio they were riding high. Bookings included places like the Staircase (Downtown Pittsburgh), The Love In (Oakland), The Grove (with Porky Chedwick), The Jolly Rogers (West Virginia) and The Alamo (Ohio) the group’s popularity covered the tri-state area. The Apache Lounge on the North-side, Oakdale Military Base NCO club, Duke University, The 4 Seasons (Rt.51 South Hills) and The Oakmont Country Club (with Charlie Apple) kept the group hoping. Larry Stanley, John Balla, Paul Theriault and Roberta Marbella (all from Hazelwood) made up the core group from 1964 through June of 1968. KQV, the then music radio station, continued to use “Fried Icecream” as a brake song for a number of years.
