A.k.a. Crown Of Thorns
A death/thrash metal band from Trollhättan, Sweden. The Crown was originally formed as Crown of Thorns in 1990 by Johan Lindstrand (vocals), Robert Österberg (guitar), Marco Tervonen (guitar), Magnus Osfelt (bass) and Janne Saarenpää. They released two demos, "Forever Heaven Gone" in 1993 and "Forget the Light" in 1994 and shortly after Österberg was replaced by Marcus Sunesson. The band was eventually signed to "Black Sun Records" and released their debut album "The Burning" in 1995. This was followed by "Eternal Death" in 1996, which was their last release under the name Crown of Thorns. In 1997 the band was forced to change name because a Christian glam-pop group had the rights to the name. Hence the name was shortened to The Crown. During their 1998 European tour a person from Metal Blade Records saw their talent and they eventually signed to the label and released "Hell is Here" in 1999. This was followed by "Deathrace King" in 2000, which also featured Tomas Lindberg (ex-At the Gates) and Mika Luttinen (Impaled Nazarene) as guest vocalists. In 2001 Johan Lindstrand decided to leave the band after 11 years. He was replaced by Tomas Lindberg, with whom the band recorded "Crowned in Terror" (2002). Lindberg's stay was short however as he was fired almost immediately after the album release due to personal differences. Johan Lindstrand then returned to the band and they recorded "Possessed 13" (2003). They also re-recorded the vocals for the "Crowned in Terror" album with Lindstrand and re-released it as "Crowned Unholy" in 2004. Soon after this the band however proceeded to disband. In 2009 The Crown reunited with Jonas Stålhammar on vocals and released "Doomsday King" in 2010. The next year Lindstrand however returned and their classic line-up was again together. In 2013 Marcus Sunesson quit the band and was replaced by Robin Sörqvist. In 2014 the founding member Janne Saarenpää also left and was replaced by Henrik Axelsson. The renewed line-up released "Death Is Not Dead" in 2015, on which Tervonen played most of the drum parts. Their most recent album release is the "Cobra Speed Venom" from 2018.
