Album US 2007 on Lujo Records label
Rock (Alternative Rock, Pop Rock, Indie Rock)
Once upon a summer’s day in 2005, two young men, Eric Collins (Denison Marrs) and Dean Paul (John Ralston Band) sat sipping sweet tea and penning songs in the sweltering southeastern corner of North America. As fast and as beautiful as the tail of a firefly lights up, the boys inked songs on paper. Okay, so it wasn’t all done in ink, but they created songs nonetheless. Songs they were proud of. Songs they knew should be heard. Soon after, they mailed these songs off to Huntington Beach, CA where their friend and musical hero, Jason Martin of Starflyer 59, resides. What they hoped to get from him was an honest critique. You know, a tastey little plate of constructive criticism. Instead they received a personal invitation to Mr. Martin's home studio to record some demos, free of charge. It was a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’, in exchange for being able to produce and record the bands’ debut full length, whenever that time came. Surprised, flattered, and full of encouragement, Eric and Dean wasted no time getting to California to let Martin put his magic touch on their jams. It was only a couple days later that the band and Martin emerged with three shining demos, which they all began sending to anyone and everyone they thought might be interested in lending an ear. Well, Erik Aucoin and Jocelyn Toews of Lujo Records were indeed interested and adopted the newly named band, The Dark Romantics, into their musical family. Immediately it was down to business as the label sent the band back to Martin to record, tentatively setting their debut album for an October 2006 release. They decided to call this record ‘Some Midnight Kissin’.’ With a strong debut album under their belts, and a new and exciting record label behind them, all the boys needed was a band. Minor details, right? Luckily, the answer was right in front of their collective nose, as they enlisted the help of their wives, who are also sisters, to close in the gaps. Amanda Jones (Dean's wife) sauntered in to play keys, and Carla Jones (Eric's wife) put her swagger behind the bass. The last person to bring this project together, was a friend by the name of JP, who stepped in to pound out the beats. The pieces of this puzzle had all come together and now all that’s left is the bands’ burgeoning fan base in anticipate of ‘Some Midnight Kissin’, ya’ll!!
