Soul group Formed in Birmingham, Alabama by Tony Gideon, in 1956, as The Five Sparrows. The initial line up included Charles "Sparrow" Boyd (baritone), George Wood (baritone), his brother Dorsey Wood (tenor and lead), Tony Gideon (second tenor and lead) and Eddie Thomas (bass). Moved to Chicago area seeking for a record label. Through a local dj they met with Gerald Sims and recorded their debut single at Bea & Baby Records and then meeting Chuck Colbert started releasing records at Tip Top (2). They went under quite a few line up changes, and Curtis Burrell, Ulysses McDonald (both former members of The Dolphins) joined them after 1961 that Gerald Sims left the group to work with Carl Davis at Chess. The group disbanded in 1965 and Chuck Colbert started focusing on Gary & The Knight Lites that would become American Breed.
