Produced & remastered directly from original 78s by: Christopher King Original 78s from the collection of Christopher King. Special thanks to: “Dutch” Brüton, Demetrios Dallas & Stuart Gunter The Recordings of The Harisis Group from Northern Greece "Little is known about the Harisis group that recorded the 78s found on this EP other than some lean details from the Greek discography. We know their last names and the first initial of their surnames. That they hailed from the region of Northern Greece known as Epirus can be gleaned from both their repertoire and style. These four battered sides (probably the only ones that they recorded and likely the best condition copies to survive the ravages of time) represent a distinct unearthly rawness, a primal, almost dark energy that sets them apart from the other groups that recorded from the region. It is also likely that they were from Zagori, a sparsely populated area in the Pindus mountains that contains forty-five villages. Although 78s featuring songs and dance music from Epirus are scarce and desirable, the two discs by the Harisis group are vexingly rare. The archaic melodies and insistent, droning rhythms captured on these discs suggest a sound that is ancient and enigmatic. For a deeper sampling and understanding of the music from Epirus, I suggest you listen to Five Days Married & Other Laments: Song & Dance From Northern Greece, 1928-1958." Barcode is printed black on white, on a sticker pasted onto the back cover on the record sleeve. The catalogue number is also printed above the barcode, though it is slightly different than the one found on the label (AMA 003A-EP instead of AMA-03A).
