The Innovators are two rappers/producers TNG and Second Son who have colaborated on numerous projects, before formalizing the group in 2000 in Grahamstown, South Africa. TNG was born and raised in Harare, Zimbabwe, and Second Son in Lusaka, Zambia. The two meet while attending Rhodes University in Grahamstown. Upon their appearance on their independently self-released compilation album "The R.U. Project" in 2003, the group followed up with an underground EP titled "Bon Appetite" to formally introduce the duo. Later that same year the duo qualified to compete in an "up & coming artists" national competition which saw them win the most votes from the public, and which led to their appearance on the "Silvertab Harambe Dope Sessions" compilation released on DIY Records.
