The Lambeth Orchestra, England gave its first concert in 1972 and ever since has pursued a policy of performing minor works of major composers and major works of minor composers, as well as the standard concert repertoire. This give a mixture of familiar and less familiar, but accessible, music at very affordable prices. The average age of the orchestra's members is in the early 30s, although the age range spans many decades, and we are fortunate in having a steady flow of new recruits. We have a policy of setting ticket prices as low as possible, in order to make orchestral music available to music-lovers in Lambeth, London and neighbouring boroughs who may not be able to afford the prices charged by the big London concert halls. The orchestra is a charity and is run by a committee of playing members, with the music director, leader and administrator the only paid personnel. We are also members of Making Music , and have on several occasions been awarded one of their special enterprise awards.
