Band, *2002 GB, Manchester
Rock and Electronic
Strictly hailing from the Leeds area but generally classed as a Manchester band, having formed while all attending Manchester University in 2002, The Longcut's music combines an edgy angst reminiscent of early Joy Division with the epic sweep of bands such as Muse. Distinctively, their songs are often largely instrumental with the sparse, hoarse vocals seeming almost an afterthought (none of the members intended to be a singer, Ogilvie stepping forward when the original singer left) but adding a significant element of tension to the overall, dense sound. Originally signed to Liverpool's Deltasonic label, the band moved to Melodic in 2007. Members: Stuart Ogilvie (Vocals, Drums, Keyboards) Lee Gale (Guitar) Jon Fearon (Bass)
