Rock (Lo-Fi, Indie Rock)
Back Cover: Nine old songs Large singing group Poor sound quality - "Let's Get Out Of The Romance" recorded September 24th 2003 at Dub Narcotic in Olympia, Wash. during the sessions for "New England" by Jason Anderson. Story: Winter 2002/2003 was spent living far away in a little cabin. It was refreshing to live simply in the snow (Kjerringøy, Norway) but it would be foolish to give the distance or the scenery the credit. Coming back to the United States, at war, deeply conflicted, driving past miles of colorful billboards, I kept yelling out the window to myself: "Let's get out of the romance!" meaning: "This is the same world as the land of simple empty snow." - "Ut Oh! It's Mourningtime Again" recorded May 23rd 2002 from 8 to 10 in the evening at Dub Narcotic in Olympia Wash. Story: March 15th, 2002 I had a vivid dream. Waking up from the dream, the refrain was stuck in my head: "Uh oh, it's morning time again". So I called my friend Kyle Field to tell him the dream. Later he put it to music for his "Little Wings" project. His version is on the album "Light Green Leaves" (CD version). The song sung here is my pun-based adaptation of the Little Wings song (which was based on a fictional B.P. Billy song from my dream, barely remembered, then described over the phone.) There is still another generation of this song theme by Kyle called "Uh Oh, It's Uh Oh Time Again", about how we keep re-doing the songs. Incidentally, my song is about being in a wishy-washy love relationship, sometimes celebrating, sometimes mourning, eventually becoming absorbed by the swamp. - "Do Not Be Afraid" recorded March 26th 2004 live at the Department of Safety in Anacortes, Wash. Story: There are two subsequent versions of this song by "Mount Eerie" that attempt to say this idea in a clearer way. One is called "Do Not Be Afraid" and appears on the "7 New Songs" collection. The other is called "Wolf Mountain Howls 'In The World'" and appears on a 12" with that name. - "Where Is My Tarp" was also recorded at the same time as "Ut Oh, It's Mourningtime Again", as well - "I Cut My Hands Off" Nobody knows exactly when it was recorded but it was in early 2002 - "So Your Big Black Cloud Will Come" recorded Sunday February 10th 2002 at 10 in the morning at Dub Narcotic in Olympia, Wash. at a special trick-concert designed to lure singers off the street for a recording project. Story: Maybe you recognize the song from "Mount Eerie" by The Microphones. This is the song sung by the "Precipice Carolers" as the "Death" character approaches from across the water. Kyle Field played the "Death" role, and so wrote this and the other death themes. - "Human" recorded at the same time by the same people in the same place as "Let's Get Out Of The Romance" - "I'll Shut Up" was recorded at the same show as "Do Not Be Afraid". Story: Another in the funny series of songs in praise of stopping singing. This is the most blatantly hypocritical of them, "I'll Shut Up" - "I Can't Believe You Actually Died" recorded November 26th 2000 at Dub Narcotic in Olympia, Wash. This is an inferior alternate take of this song which has already been released, long ago on 7 inch and C.D. ("Song Islands" by The Microphones Singers). Story: My friend died. He was named Brandon Schafer or "Leica Piranha". The 7" release of the normal version of this song was credited to "The Microphones Singers" and was the first time we recorded a song in this way: live in the studio all gathered around one microphone with flaws included. We liked it so much that we did all these other songs in that way, and now this new band called "Singers" is born. This is the first album by Singers. - Credit is due: Much inspiration for the tone and feeling of a large group singing together is taken from the Pounding Serfs, the greatest Anacortes Band of all time. Their only album is gone. Maybe someday K will reissue it, or maybe we will sing the songs again. Also, thanks must be sincerely given to Calvin Johnson for making the spaces for song singing. This record was assembled and made available in 2005 A.D. by P.W. Elverum & Sun Note: a CD version (of cleaner sound due to poor vinyl mastering) is included in this package for free. CD: 9 Songs 2005 A.D. Other Notes: LP and CD tracks are identical. Track B3 is titled "Human Human Human" on label. The Mount Eerie Bandcamp page credits "Mount Eerie" as the main artist; but is not credited on the LP. Per Bandcamp: "“SINGERS” is also the name of the band. This is their first album."
