The Mixtress

A.k.a. Janelle Manalo Tsujiuchi

The Mixtress® - Divas of Style Entertainment, Lady STA / STA MD Janelle " The Mixtress®" Tsujiuchi started DJing in 1995 after growing up around DJs throughout her high school years. Her brother, Garrett "DJ Deus" Tsujiuchi was part of her influence in her career, but she mainly learned the ways with her best friend Mike Alejo. At that time, there weren't many female 'mix' DJs in the scene. Aside from DJ Symphony of the Beat Junkies, she wanted to make her mark in the industry as well, so she could show everyone that females can get down on the decks just as good as men do. She caught the interest of Jim "Jazzy Jim" Archer during the early stages of her career and eventually had the opportunity to guest DJ for WILD 94.9 in the Bay Area, in 1996. The positive response of her appearance landed her a weekly Friday spot called Fierce Freestyle Fridays on St. John's Playhouse, and mixed on the weekends with her fellow Wildstyle DJs during the weekend mixshows. She was the only female Wildstyle DJ from 1997 to 2002. During that period, she brought back Freestyle music to the Bay and produced a slew of mix CDs called Fierce Freestyle Classics that spanned 3 volumes, then capped it off with Wildstyle Freestyle in 2001 and Divas of Freestyle in 2003. She also played at several Bay Area clubs which included Sound Factory, City Nights, Rouge, 1015 Folsom and Ruby Skye. She also appeared at various events which included Hot Import Nights, Fiesta Filipina, Cyberfest and other local concerts. Her passion for DJing influenced several other females to get out there to do their thing and eventually, The Mixtress® collaborated with them and Divas of Style Entertainment was born in 2002. The all female DJ crew dominated the Bay Area mix scene not just with beauty, but skills on the ones and twos. The Mixtress® spins Top 40, old school, Freestyle and House music. She also can be heard spinning R&B and Hip Hop. Her influences include DJ Deus, Qbert, Jazzy Jim, Greg Lopez and the SBC DJs just to name a few. She is actively working on fundraising events, night club events and a few mix tapes. She was offered a spot in the Lady STA division of the new Supernatural Turntable Artists reloaded project and accepted with open arms. "Anything to further influence the growing influx of female talent out there" she was quoted saying.
