Compil. JP 1998 on P-Vine Non Stop label
Jazz (Bop)
Four page insert/booklet features front and back covers for each album. An additional fold-out insert includes liner notes in Japanese. A P-Vine reply card is also included. In jewel case with obi. Compilation of tracks from two Crown/Modern releases that knowingly withheld the identity of the performers. Track titles and composition credits are often incorrect, but have been left here as presented on this specific release. Listed personnel includes Dexter Gordon and Sonny Criss who are not believed to be present on any of the recordings. Confirmed track information: Tracks 1 and 2 are correctly credited and are performed by Jimmy Giuffre. Track 3, personnel unknown. Track 4 is actually Hot House Part 1 and is performed by Wardell Gray. Track 5 is actually New Flying Home and is performed by Lloyd Glenn. Track 6 is actually Snow Plow and is performed by Jimmy Jackson and his Orchestra. Track 7 is correctly credited and is performed by Jimmy Jackson and his Orchestra. Track 8 is actually Cool Fantasy Part 2 and is performed by Howard McGhee. Track 9 is actually Time Out For The Blues and is performed by Benny Carter. Track 10, personnel unknown. Track 11 is actually Body And Soul Part 2 and is performed by Charlie Shavers. Track 12, personnel unknown. Track 13 is actually Bumps And Lumps and is performed by "Bumps" Meyers. Track 14 is actually Donna Lee and is performed by Howard McGhee.* Track 15, personnel unknown. * This is one of only two tracks given personnel details on this release, but the suggested line-up is not consistent with research. As presented on the insert: Howard McGhee (tp); Sonny Criss (as); Wardell Gray (ts); Dexter Gordon (ts); Todo [sic] Maramosa (p); Red Callender (b); Jackie Mills (ds) and others. The probable personnel includes Art Pepper on alto sax and Teddy Edwards on tenor, with no Criss, Gray or Gordon present. The rhythm section appears accurate.
