The Oysters were a Boston garage band formed by Rich McKenzie after the split of punk band Stranglehold in 1984. With Stranglehold bassist Jonathan Roberts, Rich recruited Dave Collins of DYS and Dave Fredette (Titanics, Upper Crust). David Fredette, guitarist and singer in a South Shore AC/DC style cover band, was introduced to the group by older brother Stephen of Scruffy the Cat. Collins bailed and was replaced briefly by drummer Dave Brown aka Dave Bass (Young Snakes, Negative FX, Lyres) before Eddie Hopkins joined for the final stretch. The band played at the usual places around town and toured briefly. The Oysters released an album and a single on TAANG! Records. They disbanded in 1986
