Rock and Pop
The Japanese twee-pop / powerpop outfit The Penelopes was essentially the work of singer/songwriter Tatsuhiko Watanabe; the group debuted in 1993 with the album In a Big Golden Cage, followed a year later by Touch the Ground. Although by this time the band was primarily a Watanabe solo project, he maintained the Penelopes' name for 1997's Kiss of Life; A Place in the Sun, issued that same year, was the first LP issued on Watanabe's own Vaudeville Park label. Since then, The Penelopes has released several albums - Inner Light (1999), Eternal Spring (2003) and Summerdew Avenue (2006), as well as collaborating with Rhythm Fantasy putting out their two mini albums Melody Garden(2000) and World 2003(2003). The band has also contributed to a lot of compilations including his own off-shoot label Vostok Sound's Sweet Psychedelic Orange (2008) and UK's O bosque.Woodland's comp COSMOPOPLITAN (2010).
