The Penetrators

Band, GB

A.k.a. The Penetrators (Washington DC)

The Penetrators (Washington DC 1977-80) were: George Dively ('Vic Torious') lead guitar & vocals; Scott Logan ('Buster Hyman') rhythm guitar & vocals; Mike Crosson ('Flesh Hunter') bass & vocals; and Tommy Carr (drums & vocals). Larry ('Spokes') Norton was the original drummer during 1977-78 and can be heard on the lead track "The Break" on Limp Records' 1978 compilation album :30 Over DC, Here Comes the New Wave. we dropped those pseudonyms after our first gig! We were part of the early DC punk scene, and in one book written about that period are credited as playing Washington DC's 'first punk gig.' This was in 1978 at The Atlantis at 930 F Street, later to become the original 930 Club / Nightclub 9:30. We played with many of DC's best bands of that pre-Hardcore time period, like The Slickee Boys and others. We played with The Cramps in early 1979 and Ronnie Ashton's Destroy All Monsters in early 1980 at DC Space, a famous venue from DC's past, now gone. But after going 'balls out' for two and a half years, and making a disastrous choice on a manager, we finally imploded, and played our final gig in April 1980. Excerpts from an 8mm home movie taken on that final night are to be included in an upcoming DC documentary "Punk The Capitol." We played with The Insect Surfers that night. Coincidentally, it turned out to be Dischord Records Ian McKaye's 18th birthday. There is a live recording from that final night. Sadly, only two tracks were released on vinyl before the band split up. These are available on :30 Seconds Over DC, Here Comes the New Wave, and The Best of Limp, the Rest of Limp from Limp Records, 1978 and 1980. Tommy Carr, Mike Crosson, and Scott Logan would each go on to join with Boyd Farrell in Black Market Baby's different line ups during the '80s; George Dively formed The New Standard with Matt McMullen (drums & vocals) and Mark McMullen (bass & vocals) in 1981 and later, Denizens of Washington with Leo Shock (drums & vocals) and Jim Viner (bass & vocals).
