The Puberty Institution

A collaboration between contemporary Scottish artists, Craig Richardson & Douglas Gordon in the 80's. Puberty Institution's 'Antehyperaesthesia' (1987) followed on from a series of performed works at the Third Eye Centre and the Riverside-based National Review of Live Art previously under the guise of 'tradition:debilitation' (Douglas Gordon, Craig Richardson and Euan Sutherland). Later performances were staged at the Arnhem-based Ocean Gallery during the AVE Festival and then, with increasing levels of dereliction, in a range of spaces in Glasgow and Arnhem culminating at the 1988 Society of Scottish Artists, for which Puberty Institution were commissioned to make a large-specific instalation.
