The Royal Green Jackets was an infantry regiment of the British Army, and together with The Light Infantry formed The Light Division from 1968 to 2007. The Royal Green Jackets was formed on 1 January 1966 by the amalgamation of the three separate regiments of the Green Jackets Brigade: The 1st. Battalion The Royal Green Jackets, formerly the 1st Green Jackets (43rd and 52nd) The 2nd. Battalion The Royal Green Jackets, formerly the 2nd Green Jackets, the King's Royal Rifle Corps The 3rd. Battalion The Royal Green Jackets, formerly the 3rd Green Jackets, the Rifle Brigade (Prince Consort's Own). Each battalion had it's own band which continued until 1985 when they were re-organized into two larger regimental bands called The Normandy Band Of The Royal Green Jackets and The Peninsula Band.These continued until 1993 when the four regimental bands of the Light Division (inc The Light Infantry) were merged to form one divisional band The Band Of The Light Division in 1994. In February 2007 The Royal Green Jackets battalions were amalgamated into a new large regiment called The Rifles.
