After two tours and three albums The Grass split in two halves. Patrick McNally and Nicholas Wolfe, remained in Ottawa while the other members returned to Nova Scotia. The Nova Scotia half decided to continue as The Grass and recruit new members, the Ottawa half, left without instruments and recording equipment, loaned equipment from the Ottawa RCMP marching band. They named themselves Ship-Shapes in respect to how the borrowed instruments must be returned.
