A.k.a. The Silvertone Steelband
Surinamese-Dutch steel band from the second half of the Sixties. The members of the band originated from the West Indies hence their acquaintanceship with the typical Surinamese and Caribbean (melodic) instruments: the steelpans on which traditional songs and party music was played. The band members from Zaandam made their instruments themselves out of discarded oil barrels from the local factories. Originally they exclusively used these traditional steel drums along with percussion instruments. The band stayed active till the end of the Seventies.
