A.k.a. The Special Guests Mod band
'The Special Guests'were formed in 2013 by drummer/guitarist Simon Holland from the Ashes of bands Instant Repeater and 'The Session' & Lou Lucano formally the lead guitarist of The Sha la Las and The 5:16s. With the Additional Talent of vocalist Enzo Esposito who was the original bass player and vocalist of seminal Mod band Squire and lead Vocalist & guitarist of the 5:16s respectively, meant the nucleus of The Special Guests was born. The 5:16s famously gained the enviable position of being given the support slot at the now legendary 'Wake up Woking' charity concert headlined by the 'Modfather' himself Paul Weller and his band. Squire famously supported The Jam back in the day on the 'All Mod Cons Tour' and not forgetting also scored a few hits themselves like 'Walking Down the Kings Rd' 'My Mind goes round in circles' 'its a mod mod world' and 'Stephanie'. The three members all with an admiration of all things mod and northern soul went on the tireless lookout for a suitable solid bass player who came in the form of ex 'The Fat Penguins' Rhythm section master Mark Sheepwash with a wealth of experience within numerous other mod Blues and Soul bands proved to be the missing link to the rhythm section with Simon Holland on drums. Enlisting lead and rhythm guitarist and Vocalist Chris Pilott of many similar mod and soul bands including band 'High Vibe'' and with the same desire to play mod and soul influenced music, the now classic line up was ready to hit the live music scene with gusto. Then,Last but definitely not least they enlisted the Hammond playing excellence of ex 5:16s keyboard and Saxophonist Andy James which now completes the current 'Special Guests' line up. With the expert guidance and day to day organisation from manager/promoter Vic Falsetta, the band set out to blend all the sounds of the original 60's mod era by the likes of The Small Faces/The Action/Spencer Davis/The Who etc and intertwined with the Latter 70's mod revival era by the likes of Squire/The Jam/Secret affair etc etc. Now with a totally original sound the band feel they bring something a bit different to the burgeoning live Mod scene with a tight punchy live sound and the skilled musicians to match. The band have just recorded the Paul Weller track ' Left, right & centre' for charity with his blessing and it was released on vinyl 7" with 100 special edition red vinyls with Paul Wellers original lyrics included in the limited release. Steve Brookes the founder member of 'The Jam' performed and recorded his single 'feels so good' on the AA side single. They just launched the single at the 100 club London to a capacity crowd and have since gained the support slot at the upcoming 'The public gets what the public wants' surrey G Live gig with From the Jam,featuring original Jam member Bruce Foxton on 3rd April just two weeks prior to the amazing modatthepav gig with Craig Charles and the stunning line up including The Stone Foundation among others.
