A.k.a. The Bracelets (2) The Original Bluebelles
Soul/R&B girl group from Chicago, Illinois. Formed in 1961, they released singles such as "Better Tell Him No" and "My Last Cry" on Pam Records. They also recorded the song "I Sold My Heart To The Junkman" (originally by The Basin Street Boys from 1946), which was released by the Newtown label under the name of Patti LaBelle's group, The Blue Belles, and became a hit, prompting a legal case. After getting caught lip-synching on American Bandstand, Patti LaBelle & The Bluebelles were sued by The Starlets; each member received $5,000 in damages. The Starlets broke up around 1963. Members: Liz Walker (Dynetta Boone), Maxine Edwards, Jane Hall, Mickie McKinney, Jeanette Miles. Not to be confused with the late 60s girl group The Starlets (6).
