Band,
Jazz, Rock, R&B/Soul and Pop
The Wayne Avers Group performs mainly instrumental music, mixing surf rock, jazz fusion, and "spaghetti-western" soundtrack genres. The band is fronted by Wayne Avers, guitarist, vocalist, and composer based in Nashville TN and endorsed by major guitar companies. He has been releasing his own material since the 1990s. Concurrently, he is a sought-after guitarist, best known for his long association with The Monkees. In 1990 Avers was asked to join the band Breakaway, which was hired to back Davy Jones on Jones's solo concerts. From there he connected with Micky Dolenz and joined Dolenz's band, also becoming music director. From the mid-90s on, Avers became a cornerstone lead guitarist and (eventual) music director for all their reunion tours. He has also performed with Rick Derringer, Mark Lindsay, The Teen Idols, and other notables.
