Athens, GA indie pop quartet the Wee Turtles was formed in the summer of 1998 by singer/guitarist Jon Croxton, guitarist Brian Crews, bassist Robbie Beers, and drummer Phil Horan. Named in honor of a quote from The Simpsons' Groundskeeper Willie -- "If I don't save the wee turtles, who will?" -- the group issued its debut single, "Here Comes Lucky," on the Blackbean & Placenta label, following compilation contributions to Earworm and Kindercore with the 2000 release of their Pitch-a-Tent full-length debut This Land Is Your Land.
