Alternative
The Wilmas were Dave Allman on drums, Jon Harrison on bass and vocals, and Mark Johnson on guitar and vocals. Dave & Mark met Jon at a house party (where his then current band, the psychedelic and Kevin Hickel-fronted Everywhere played), and decided to start the band at an open mic later on. Over the next three years, the band played as often as the distance allowed, since Dave & Jon lived in Lawrence, KS, and Mark was in Austin, TX, attending graduate school. During the summers, the trio played frequently at clubs around Lawrence, Kansas City, and other regional towns. The Wilmas recorded sessions at Big Bang Recording Studio each summer from 1989 to 1991, the results of which were Songs About Girls (1989), More Songs About Girls (1990), Still More Songs About Girls (also known as Son of More Songs About Girls, 1991), and a submission on Fresh Sounds From Middle American Vol 5. Their last show was with Danger Bob and Sunday Drive at the Hideaway in Lawrence on February 14, 1994.
