Eight strangers from Niagara, with one thing in common; Keep’n it Funk, Free, and Casual! Formed in 2008 by lead singer Kyle Petch (aka humbleHAB) Theatre Crisp took a full year to practice and polish their sound to the point where it was sure to turn heads before debuting at their first show. Theatre Crisp hit the scene hard in 2009 delivering a fresh sound to the Hip-Hop community with truly original music and their unique “Funk-Hop” style. ” It would seem to be impossible for a band to create a fresh sound, since so many new artists follow the ruts worn deep by those who came before. But I was surprised, in the best way, by a band called Theatre Crisp…It was the best time I've had at a concert in a really long time.” Erin Wilson Studios The band claims their sound comes from the fact that each member originates from a distinct musical background; ranging from underground Hip-Hop, Classic Rock, Metal, Blues and Jazz which can all be detected in their songs. After 3 years of playing countless shows, 2012 was marked as a big year for Theatre Crisp with the release of their debut full length album, “Modern Daze”. Winning Best Original Group of 2012 at the NMA’s on top of being nominated for: Best Male Vocalist, Original Song of the year and Best Music Video. Finally; being granted an opening spot on a tour with BC’s Current Swell on top of countless other shows helped earn the band more popularity and coverage leading into 2013. Theatre Crisp is wasting no time in 2016 by spending time in the studio for their upcoming album (expected to be released in early 2017) while balancing a busy year of shows and festivals already being booked. 2016 is also important because the band welcomes their newest members; Drums: Damian Hercules, Trombone: Fearghas Gundy, Keyboards: Michael Banks & Bass: Nicholas Serbina! The rest of Theatre Crisp consists: of lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Kyle Petch (humbleHAB), lead guitar/producer Jay Baty, DJ: John Kirby AKA DJ K-FLiP and finally 3 time world tap dance champion David Cox adds to the mix to create another layer of percussion and visual spectacle! The band’s unique cross genre sound has allowed them to play with a vast array of artists like: Shad, Bedouin Soundclash, USS, Current Swell, D-Sisive, Dinosaur Bones, Saint Alvia, The Balconies, Organ Thieves, StereoKid, Rebel Emergency, The Johnstones, LMT Connection, Scratch (from The Roots), and My Son The Hurricane just to name a few. Theatre Crisp writes their tunes for people who love life and love having a good time. It’s the type of music you could dance your ass off to, or just sit back and chill out.
