American jazz drummer, bandleader, composer and vocalist, born December 27, 1949, NYC. Son of Thelonious Monk, who started to play drums before the age of ten. He used to study with Max Roach and tour with this father. He has been successful in jazz, earning a few awards throughout his career. He is also founder and chairman of The Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz.
