Theodore Levin is an American ethnomusicologist and professor of music at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. Levin earned his undergraduate degree at Amherst College and obtaining his Ph.D. from Princeton University. Levin has focused his research on the people of Central Asia since 1974. His research and advocacy activities focus on the role of arts and culture in promoting and strengthening civil society in countries where it is endangered or still emerging. He completed a record collection (Music of Central Asia), released by Smithsonian Folkways. At Dartmouth he teaches courses on ethnomusicology and world music, sacred music in East and West, and an interdisciplinary course on the Silk Road offered through the Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Program.
