Thomas McIntosh, born in London, England in 1972, now lives and works in Montreal, Canada. He studied architecture at Carleton University, Ottawa and at the Technical University in Berlin and worked for a number of years as an architect in Germany. In 1997 he began working in collaboration with composer Emmanuel Madan under the name [The User] and produced three major series of works collectively entitled Symphony for dot matrix printers, Silophone and Coincidence Engines. Since 1998 their works and McIntosh’s Ondulation series have been exhibited extensively around the world. He is the recipient of two awards from the Festival de Nouveau Cinéma et Nouveaux Médias de Montréal, an honourable mention from Ars Electronica and was nominated in 2004 for the Nam June Paik prize.
