Thomas Woolnoth

Thomas Woolnoth (1785-1857), Painter and engraver Best known for his theatrical portraits after Thomas Charles Wageman and for large plates after Correggio and van Dyck. He contributed steel engravings to publications including E.W. Brayley and J. Britton's The History of the Ancient Palace and Late Houses of Parliament at Westminster (1836) and The Portrait Gallery of Distinguished Poets (1853). He engraved from his own designs, providing drawings and engravings for Sarah Bowditch's Juvenile Album (1841), and his publications Flowers of Infancy (1839) and Facts and Faces (1852). He served as engraver in ordinary to Queen Victoria and exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1842-57.
