Timur Mynbaev (1942–2011) was a Russian conductor, composer and musicologist from Alma-Ata, Kazakhstan. He graduated from the Leningrad Conservatory after studying choral conducting (1968) and composition (1972), and received PhD degree in music theory in 1976. Since 1974, Mynbaev was a principal conductor of Kazakh SSR State Symphony Orchestra. As a musicologist, Timur authored a number of articles on Benjamin Britten. Mynbaev performed with State Academic Symphony Orchestra, Central TV and USSR Radio Large Symphony Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Leningrad Academic Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra and other prominent ensembles, conducted operas in Bolshoi Theatre and Mariinsky Theatre. He had been touring around the Soviet Union, in Ukraine, Moldova, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, Bulgaria, Austria, Yugoslavia, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Finland, and South Korea.
