Austin, Texas saxophonist. Tomas Ramirez, a native of South Texas, was born in Falfurrias “home of the butter”, which may explain his "smooth like butter" tone and phrasing style. Tomas studied jazz and jazz composition at the University of Texas at Austin with Dick Goodwin, leader of the University Lab Bands. Tomas played lead tenor in the 1:00 Lab Band and toured extensively throughout Mexico in 1971. Tomas joined the Jerry Jeff Walker band in '73, playing throughout the U.S. and squeezing in a whirlwind tour of Australia. While with Jerry Jeff, Tomas recorded four albums with him, two albums with The Lost Gonzo Band (Jerry Jeff's backup band), and two albums with Carole King. Throughout the 80's, Tomas played primarily with his own band, Jazzmanian Devil, and also put out a solo album, "Thanks for the Goodbyes". During that decade, Tomas recorded with Christopher Cross, Dan Del Santo and his Professors of Pleasure, Pressure, Beto and the Fairlanes, Tex Thomas and his Dangling Wranglers, Texana Dames, and a slew of other artists.
