Composer / Conductor
Tom is a London-based conductor, composer, copyist and highly experienced instrumentalist. He regularly works playing tuba and sousaphone with orchestras around London, jazz bands Doolally Tap, Palace Avenue Swing, Shirt Tail Stompers, Dixie Ticklers, Mardi Gras Jazz Band, and as a session player for composers Dan Locklair, David Tobin, Rob Kelly, and Ruth Barrett on her score for the BBC's Remember Me drama series featuring Michael Palin. A very adaptable all-round musician with a thorough grounding in classical music, Tom is also very knowledgeable in other genres, especially jazz and improvised music. Comfortable composing and arranging in a wide range of styles, his interests include orchestral music, both classical and contemporary, through wind and brass music to jazz, pop, and most contemporary forms. Tom particularly enjoys the process of recording music and is experienced on both sides of the control room window. Recording highlights have included conducting at Maida Vale Studios for BBC Radio 3 and Abbey Road Studios for Audio Network, having his compositions recorded by the English Session Orchestra at Air Lyndhurst Studios, Abbey Road Studios and in Chislehurst Caves for Audio Network, as well as co-producing Running Away with the Circus, an album by Trans-Siberian March Band, a 13-piece Balkan Brass Band, also at Air Lyndhurst.
