Born - 15th August 1848 in Wood Street, Shotley Bridge, County Durham, UK. Died - 30th August 1920 in Havelock Terrace, Shotley Bridge, Iveston, East Tanfield, UK. Known affectionately as 'The Pitman Poet', he wrote songs about the horrendous conditions at the local Coalfields earning a living selling his songs as broadsheets.
