TONGUE is a collaboration between County Kildare couple Peter Kavanagh and Pamela Halpin. Their debut on Origin 'See the Light is the culmination of two years living and working together. The album is the second in a series conceived by Galway Bay FM DJ jon Richards and Aidan Reade (Black Rose Studiod). It celebrates a wide array of talent from Ireland's West Coast music scene. The album is a facinating one, and TONGUE's first track entitled 'Claudia's Lament is a particular highlight. The sound is contemporary and raw with a sensual late night feel reminisent of Portishead and Massive Attack. The tone is dark and seductive and there is a passionate intensity to the lyrics. The duo's strength is in their ability to create a powerful ambience that draws you into their world. This is music that implores the listener to turn down the lights. This quality is equally apparent in the live arena. TONGUE's performance at the Origin launch party in Bar Cuba* on the 30th of September was well received by a packed crowd. They played tree songs, and the addition of a drummer, a violinist and a backing vocalist fleshed out the sound nicely. The violin particular added texture and emotion. it was Pamela through who provided the real focal point for the band. She was clearly in her element under the spotlight, and her singing was hauntingly beautiful. TONGUE are improving all the time and are incredibly committed to what they do. They have clearly found their voice and are now looking to refine.
