A.k.a. Aloma And Jones
Originally from the Isle of Anglesey, Tony and Aloma Jones were the biggest name in Welsh language pop circles during the 1970s and 80s, and their recordings still command popular appeal. They perform regularly now at The Gresham Hotel in Blackpool, the hotel run by Aloma and her husband Roy, a popular venue for coach-loads of fans from Wales. Tony began writing songs while working as a farm labourer in England during the 60s, and the subject of his first songs was the longing he felt for his home in Wales, and for Anglesey in particular. He began singing on his own, but soon teamed up with a talented schoolgirl from Amlwch, and soon their partnership set Wales alight. The unique harmony produced by Tony singing the melody, and Aloma the lower line, immediately caught on, as did the intrigue about their personal relationship. Were they lovers or just friends? Whatever the truth, their friendship remains to this day.
