Major of the Royal Marines Band. From facbook page - Encouraged from an early age by his father Barry, a music teacher, to learn the piano, and began lessons on the French Horn, playing with the County Youth Orchestra. He joined the Royal Marines Band Service as a cornet and piano player in 1983, and on completion of training, was drafted to the Plymouth Band. Became pianist on the Royal Yacht Britannia. Gained an LRSM in Conducting in 1995. Became Warrant Officer Bandmaster in April 2000 and went on an exchange to the Defence Force School of Music in Australia for four months. Bandmaster at the Royal Marines School of Music for two years, during which time he attained his B.Mus. (Hons) Degree. He was promoted to Captain in 2002 after completing officer training at the Commando Training Centre in Lympstone, Devon. Prior to taking up his appointment in June 2004 as Director of Music, Band of HM Royal Marines Scotland, he studied conducting at post-graduate advanced level under Peter Stark and Simon Young at Trinity College of Music in London; on completion of his studies, he was awarded the Ricordi Conducting Prize. Later, he was awarded a distinction as Master of Music (Conducting). Returned to Portsmouth to the RM Band Service Headquarters in 2007. Promoted to Major in February 2008, and was invited to return to Sydney for four months as the Musical Director of the Royal Australian Navy Band. Currently Director of Music of the Portsmouth Royal Marines Band.
