Irish Reggae band from Tuam in County Galway who formed in 1985 and disbanded in the early 90s. The idea of the group came together when band members were living in London. While in the UK capital, the band started playing with Jamaican musicans. This gave rise to their interest in reggae. Leo Moran only remained with the group for a short time as he left in 1986 to form The Saw Doctors. They returned to Tuam in 1987. They derived their name from a rough translation of a Spanish phrase. Band member, John Brogan, had just returned home from the Canary Islands where the heat there was described as being 'Too Much For The Whiteman'. Put Your Mind At Ease reached Number 28 in Ireland on the 13th of October 1988 where it stayed for one week. They also contributed the track 'Try A Little Harder' to the soundtrack of 'The Courier', a film featuring Gabriel Byrne and Patrick Bergin. Too Much For The Whiteman split in the early 90s. However, they reformed on the 22nd of August 2015 to perform live at the SugarBeat Festival in Tuam Stadium. On the 29th of April 2017 they played live again at The Brogue Bar, Tuam in honour of their late bass player Dermot Holian aka Der who had lost his battle with cancer on the 18th of July 2015. The proceeds of that gig went towards Galway Hospice.
