Traci Braxton

voc, *1971 US, Maryland
Singer of Hip-Hop/Rap and R&B/Soul
A.k.a. Traci Renee Braxton

Born on April 2, 1971 in Severn, Maryland as the third child to the Braxton family. Reality star, R&B singer and sister of Toni Braxton. She is also the oldest cousin of rapper Xzibit. During the early teens, Traci (along with her four sisters) was intensed by their mother with their singing phrase (lead by Tamar), "Somebody, give me some toilet paper!". By the mid-80s, Traci was inducted to a gospel choir along with the other sisters, while Evelynn was working as a therapist and opera singer. In 1990, The Braxtons were signed to the now-defunct Arista Records, because of Toni. The result was "Good Life", which was a commercial disappointment. Nonetheless, The Braxtons (minus Toni) were all dropped from Arista, before they performed a showcase for L.A. Reid and Babyface's label, LaFace. Toni was the only one signed, while Traci was provoked because of her pregnancy. The other sisters were her backup singers at the time. Traci, now alone, married retired NCAA basketball player Kevin Surratt in 1995. After suffering from a long abortion, her son, Kevin Surratt, Jr., was born for some time, prior to the release of her sister, Toni's sophomore effort, Secrets. Later that year, while Traci was under child care, her three standing sisters (under their group name), signed to Atlantic by Bryant Reid and Craig Kallman, released their one and only album as a trio titled So Many Ways that November. Due to decreasing sale competition with Mobb Deep's Hell on Earth and Foxy Brown's Ill Na Na, the album made a poor performance on the charts at #113 on the Billboard 200. Since the spring of 2011, Traci, her other sisters, Toni, Tamar, Towanda and Trina; their mother Evelynn and father Michael, Sr. all recruited for a WE TV reality show called Braxton Family Values. Several family members make cameo/short appearances on each episode. Although Traci Braxton and Kevin Surratt divorced on April 17, 2014, they still remain friends and good parents to their child. Since June 2014, Traci Braxton dated New York-bred hip-hop rapper and ASAP Mob member ASAP Ferg. During August 2014, Traci released her first single as a solo artist, "Last Call" and then, 2 months later, she released her solo debut, Crash and Burn, which peaked at #22 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart and received mostly negative critical reception. In January 2015, the remix to "Last Call", featuring Traci's then-boyfriend at that time, ASAP Ferg, was released. On October 28, 2015, Traci reunited with the Braxtons once again with a release of a compilation of Christmas-stylized tracks, Braxton Family Christmas, for the first time together as five siblings in a group since 1990. In December 2015, after 17 months of dating, Traci Braxton and ASAP Ferg had officially and briefly ended their relationship, due to several differences, conflicts, arguments, fighting and other relationship problems. Traci accused Ferg of cheating on her, choking/beating her, throwing chairs and plates at her, forcing her to eat something she didn't like and stealing/breaking her belonings. This was shortly before the release of Ferg's single, "New Level", which features fellow rapper Future (4). From late 2013 - mid-2015, Traci ran a radio show on 106.1 KMEL in San Francisco, CA.
