Born in 1929 in Hope, Arkansas, played in acollege orchesta before joining first Jay Franks' band and then, around 1950 Jimmy Liggins' Drops of Joy, a jazz and rhythm & blues group that toured nationally. He was directing the Cooperative Education office at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 1976
