Ulican existed from 1999 till 2002 as a musical project of Stephan Friedman. The name was discovered in a book of old Irish folk-tales. The word 'ulican' means a funeral cry, a lament, a sorrowful cadence, or a place of devotion and worship. This is a perfect description for the solemn, dark, and tragic realm explored by the music of Ulican.
